Minimum Knowledge for Dawah ? Dawah at own place locality and outside

Response to an Opinion by a Brother (Recieved through mail)
We should do Dawah at home and locality, once we feel that I have becomes 100% perfect then should move outside?

Dear brother,
Assalamualykum.
I like to request your that first one has to study sunnah method of working for deen and then he
has to start it. It is clear from Muhammed  (SAW) that he worked for 10 consecutive years in and around Makkah  such that the huzzat is completed on and they boycotted muslims completely then He (SAW) migrated to madinah. so first let us work for deen in and around  city or village where one live till the goal is reached. If any one feels that he can work better other than his place of residence then he has to go there and work there till the either the goal of prophet is reached or it is difficult to
stay there because of the reasons shown by Muhammed (SAW).In this we muslims today are doing mistakes because of which our efforts are not giving the result which Allah and his prophet set for peace and prospertiy of the world.
Thanks.
Wassalam.

Praise be to Allah.
Wailaikum Assalam Wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakatuhu,

1. Alhamdulillah it is a bounty of Allah on you that he gave you taufeeq to think about deen and its dawah. May Allah accept and increase your fikr for deen.

2. Your  letter is a constructive advice that should always be welcomed. Jazakallah
I am just reminding you as a brother in Islam, because among the muslims who have concern for deen or dawat,A good number is wasting their intellect, time and knowledge for criticising others and sometime even with baseless allegation. So It is my humble request that please dont waste your fikr into criticizing other muslims.

The brother opinion has three issues.
A. Is there any minimum knowledge/ criteria for start of Dawah by any person.

B General issue that whether a daee should wait for perfection of himself or completion of work at his locality before going to work at other places.
C. A particular Reference to Methodology of Tablighi Jamaat for Khurooj and Muqami Aamall
Is there any minimum knowledge/ criteria for start of Dawah by any person?

AS THE QURAN SAY WHOSOEVER FOLLOW PROPHET HAS TO GIVE DAWAH.

Say (0 Muhammad ): This is my way; I invite towards Allah,
with clear evidence and strong belief, I and whosoever follows me. (12:108).

Abdullah ibne-Amr  narrates that Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: Convey from me even if it be a single verse. (Bukhari).

Al-Haafiz ibn Hajar Asqalani AS Shafaee Rahimullah the authorative commentator of Bukhari Shareef said in Fath al-Baari: He said in the hadeeth, “even if it is one verse” so that everyone who heard him would hasten to convey whatever he heard of the verses, even if it was very little, so that in this manner everything that he (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) brought would be conveyed. "

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: 1.If a person understands what he is calling people to, it makes no difference whether he is a great and prominent scholar or a seeker of knowledge who is serious in his pursuit thereof, or a regular person who has certain knowledge of the issue in question.

The Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Convey from me, even if it is one verse,” and he did not stipulate that the daa’iyah (caller) should have reached a high level of knowledge,
B General issue that whether a daee should wait for perfection of himself or completion of work at his locality before going to work at other places.

Your example of giving dawah for 10 years in Makkah and deriving rule from it to do work at home, may or may not be the correct derivation (Allah knows the best).I am not negating your point, but not agrred because of following reasons.
A. Prophet tried his best to reach the people of other places at the time of Hajj and other occasions before Hijrat also.
B. He went to Taif before Hijrat.
C. He gave dawah to whole makkah even his family was full of nonbeliever like abu Jehal.
D. Among present day scholars are also going to other places even when the work of dawah is not final in their own countries. For example Scholars from Europe and America are coming to India pakistan and vice versa.

It is a matter in which difference of opinion is possible. It is an issue of Ijtahad and we should respect others opinion.

C. A particular Reference to Methodology of Tablighi Jamaat for Khurooj and Muqami Aamall

Tablighi jamaat has a well established mechanism to consider your concern of working in family, friends, own locallity as priority basis. For better understanding it is requested that you go in the path of allah to see the work from close (Allah knows the best)

Tablighi Jamaat has Dual aspect of Dawah effort

1.Going in path of Allah
(In a year only for 40 days Rest 325 days at own place)
2. Muqami Amaal

When you are at home

Five Amaal of Masiidwar Jamat

1.
Invite (people) to the way of your lord with wisdom and good counsel.    (Verse: 16:125)
2.
And there has to be a group of people from among you who call towards good and prevent from evil. (Verse: 3:104)

The Work of Dawah and Tabligh has two facets

1.Going in the path of Allah for some days in Jamaat
2.Doing the Amaal and effort while being at home.

1.Going in path of Allah
To learn deen, to learn practically Hikmat and Wisdom of Dawah and Tabligh, To learn basic knowledge. A person goes for learning and reinforcing it. Jamaat is on the basis of co-operating each other on Neki and Taqwa. They will learn each other not only knowledge............

But the quality of patience, humbleness, servicing others khidmat and similar other spritual quality

2. Muqami Amaal (Work of Dawah being at home)

After coming from path of Allah he has to dawah in his family, relatives, neighbours and his locality with Masjidwar Jamaat through (Daily meeting) Mulaqat, mashwara, and gusht of Five Amaal.

This is a continuous Process otherwise our JAZBAT will become cold. So Dawat should be Parts and Parcel of our life.

Maulana Inaamul Hasan Made a formal Tarteeb of Muqami Kam (effort of deen while being at home) and it hlped the brothers to strengthen the qualities and gain achieved in the path of Allah. And established strong connection between Daee and the his neihbour and surrounding.

A brief description of Five Amaal

1.    1. Daily Dawah ( Mulaqat)
Make efforts to visit each and every house of the locality to revive the amal of Da'wah. Also spend time in Da'wah of Iman, halqas of Taleem of fazael, sending and receiving of jamats to and from inside and abroad, Elm and Zikr, hospitality of incoming guests and their Taleem and tarbiah.
Brothers should eat and sleep at their houses. 2.5 hours are the minimum. Encourage brothers to give more time so that the masjid is populated by the amals of Masjide Nabawi throughout 24 hours. Ifa brother gives less than 2.5 hours, do not look down on them; appreciate whatever time they give. Specially for student Tarteeb is relaxed and they are encouraged to do even one Mulaqat at some institution it is tarteeb of only 10 minute for one Mulaqat. 10 minutes is very small but continuity/Istaqamat is very important and has long effect.

2. Daily Mashwara:
Brothers should sit daily for mashwara and fikr for a short time after any salat to their convenience. They should review the efforts made on the earlier day and do Mashwara for the efforts to be made on that day to revive 100% namazi, recitation, Zikr, Du'a, Ibadath, husne akhlak/good manners and full Deen in the entire world.

    3. Daily Taleem in Masjid and Home:
In addition to Taleem in the masjid, efforts should bernade to conduct a Taleem in every house to increase the eagerness and urge of doing amal among the family, and to encourage the ladies to spend their 24 hour daily life as per Deen by inquiring from ulema through their men.
Taleem will encourage to be on complete deen, and increase the Emaan and the Promises of Allah.

4.Two Joulas (General Gusht) every week:

One for your mosque,
 other for nearby locality mosque
Joula is general Mulaqat with all muslims irrespective of his status while going to their home/ Shops. Do it with Tawazo and Considering yourself as the most needy of Hidayat.
Make an effort to prepare cash jamats through every Joula. Through the second Joula, efforts should be made to develop work in every masjid of the city by forming masjidwar jamat

.
5.    Monthly Days:
Every worker should spend 3 days regularly by taking new brothers of his locality along with him. Through these 3 day jamats, efforts should be made to establish masjidwar jamats at all Masjids of the vicinity and for the progress of work in the vicinity.

May Allah give us taufeeq to be the part of effort of Dawt and Tabligh

Jazakallah o Khair

It is being discussed under following Questions.
Question 1 Does Tablighi Jamaat Restrict Dawah to 3 days 40 Days etc. What is Dawah Programme of TJ while being at home other than Khurooj (Going Outside)?

Q 2. Whether it is proved from Sahaba that they left their home for peaceful Dawah  other than for War in Jihad. Weather in Prophet era and Khaleefa era Sahaba left home for Dawah and teaching of Muslims?

Q.3 What is this 3 days, 40 days and 4 Month.? What is Islamic Legal Status of developing a system for seeking knowledge and for Dawah work.

Q 4. What is the Practical difficulties if a Jamaat do not preplan and fix a time and all members are free to Return at any time goes outside and. How the system become easy with making some fixed time.

Q5 Is there Any flexibility in this system of 3 days 40 days.? Is it permissible to go in Jamaat for  10/11/20/23/29/32/…………etc number of days.

Q. While fixing time period as a system Is there any relation with Quran and Hadith with these numbers of 40 days and 4 month?

Q 6 How much Shaba Sacrificed for Islam?

Q 7. An open question for all of us ( Muslim Brothers and sisters)  How much we should sacrifice for deen? How much we are sacrificing.

Finally A call and Appeal to Muslim Brothers and Sisters

Condition of Arabs in Preislamic age and Prophet method of teaching and correction

Below is Translation of excerpts from book Page no 6,7,10,11 and 12 (Musalmanon ki Umumi Taleem o Tarbeeat ka Nizam) The Urdu book is available on this website of Maulana Abul Hasan Ali Nadvi centre. The link for urdu book is http://abulhasanalinadwi.org/urdu06.html

Shaykh Writes ………………………………………
“Condition of Arab Nation in terms of literacy, knowledge and Ignorance”
Everyone knows that Prophet was descended in Arab nation who was ignorant and unmannered to the deepest level. Almost all were illiterate. The Holy Quran has mentioned the arab nation as Ummieen. (The illiterate)
He is the One who raised amidst the unlettered people a messenger from among themselves who recites to them His verses, and purifies them, and teaches them the Book and the wisdom,
Not only they were illiterate but were deep filled in the worst kind of social economic disarray. Having no etiquettes and protocol. No other words can describe it better than the Holy Quran
While they were earlier in open error. You were at the brink of a pit of Fire
Prophet Approach for education and Nurturing of Arabs
“On the scale of quantitative and Qualitative Result and long term impact the approach adopted by The beloved prophet With the Guidance of Almighty Allah is itself a Miracle.
The first thing infused by prophet was to make them eager, keen and passionate for Deen and the knowledge of deen. The prophet taught them to believe on the Promises of Allah.
One Sahabi states
“TAALLAMANAL EMAAN SUMMA TAALLAMANAL QURAN”
“We learned first Emaan (Firm believe on the words and commands of Allah and Prophet) and then learned Quran.”
With this Emaan and passion they bore all the sacrifices to the extent of even of leaving home. Everyone was keen to learn the required Ilm for guidance. And those who has learned something considered it obligatory to teach others the same.
Mutaharrak and Amli Darsgah (Prophet established Practical and Kinetic seats of learning)
Right from Beginning Prophet made a system with the foundation principles as
Knowledge with Practice (Ilm ke saath Amal)
Practice based on Knowledge (Amaal ke saath Ilm)
Learning with teaching (Taleem with TAALLUM)
The whole Islamic society was a practical and kinetic (Mobile) seat of learning (Madarsa) in which everyone was seeker for himself (Taalib) and teacher for others. The lessons of this School were not used to be reinforced alone rather by interdependence i.e. trying to memorize others and in conveying deen to others and to bear the difficulties in this process with enjoyment. This teaching used to get imprinted on heart rather than only tongue.Knowledge, rectification (Islah) and Tazkiya of Nafs was best refined and cemented in meeting different type of people dealing with them in practical life.
To be precise lets understand that their lessons of swimming not to take on dry classes rather in in the river of life. This system of learning was the same way as a child learn his mother language with company of their parents and society.
As soon as someone accepted Kalima and Islam and believed on the rightness of Allah and rasool he used to be involved in the path of Allah. He used to make himself worthless for the sake of deen and Allah. He used to be in the furnace of sacrifice and a short period of time he will become a pure gold.
Teaching and Learning of deen and its effort is integral part of muslim life.
It is very clear from Quran and Hadith that following is a parts and parcel of a Muslim life.
1.     To learn deen for oneself and to practice it in life.
2.      To Teach deen (Islamic Knowledge and Practice) to others
3.      Encouraging for good and advising to stop from bad
4.     Striving for the Spread and Propagation of deen. These all should be parts of a Muslim life.
In the era of prophet and early generation of Muslim people of all walk of life i.e Farmers businessman rich or poor used to spare some time for learning and teaching deen.
He was a businessman or farmer but whenever demanded he was ready to postpone these engagement for the sake of deen. Those who could not do this. Surah Tauba is full with the stern warning for them. (It is actually warning for all of Muslims till the day of judgment)
Hazrat Kaab bin Malik Raziallahu Anhau who could not participate in TABOOK that the same engagements and the city of Madeenah became a thorn for him. He was so much boycotted that no one in the city was to even talk with him and to reply him.
A Downward and Harmful change Happened among today’s Muslim
A back revolution has happened today (Both Ideological and Practical). Now learning and teaching of deen and striving in the service of deen are not continuing to be a part of life of a general Muslim.
Rather Service of Deen and striving has become a public work as part of Ummat and not of individual Muslims. Some special people has been engaged for the service of deen. General Muslims got an excuse and became free from service and striving for deen.
This change was a practical turning point in the life of current Muslims compared to the life of Sahaba and first few generations of Muslims.
Among Sahaba there was no exception and there was no segregation for the services of deen. (ISTASHNA AUR TAKHSEES) Rather everyone was involved according to his capability and competence. Remaining away from service of Deen and the message of Allah was a self harming suicidal action .
Service and Teaching of deen along with our daily Engagements.
Another dreaded thought got hold that we can’t do Service and learning of deen along with our daily business and jobs. but We started thinking that (Monetary Service of deen is possible but) we are not eligible for Service of deen by (collective effort with life and time ) unless we leave our worldly engagement of business and job.
Obviously only few Muslims could do the sacrificial of worldly engagement and consequently the learning and services of deen by general Muslims became rare. By the passage of time under influence of Materialism this trend even further increased. The people who were free for service of deen became rarest of the rare.
Those who could not spare themselves finally became hopeless. Slowly this class became fulfilled with their worldly engagement.
Although Sahaba were having business farming etc but they also learned deen and did service of deen collectively without any exception.
Among Shaba even those who were called as Qurra (Aalim/seeker of Knowledge) they were also doing either manual labor or small business in the day and used to study at night.
The importance of seeking of knowledge was of critical value . Those who were not able to come daily made an association with another sahabi Started coming in the Prophet gathering on alternate days and used to listen and understand the lesson of absent days from his partner/ associate Sahaba and it was vice versa. (BUKHARI HADITH about Hazrat Umar and his Neighbour tells the picture). They were restlessness about knowledge and practice of  deen.
The Approach to Implement the Model of Prophetic Era
1.     Effort should be made that the teaching-learning and service of deen be made integral part of a Muslim life.
2.     A call should be given that Muslims should accomplish their worldly engagement under this primary work of Service of deen. This is the real life underneath the WAMA KHALAQTUL JINNA WAL INSA ILLA LIYABUDOON and with the enlightenment Muslim has been created for this work.
The remaining time and resources should be efficiently utilized for lawful earning instead of wasting time in unnecessary and unwanted activities.
3.     Today it is the prime need of Muslim ummah to revive the the teaching and learning pattern of prophetic era. There is a need to mix and complement the formal system of Books and syllabus with the system of kinetic mobile learning and teaching.
4.     It is for the education of general muslim mass. All Those Muslims who cannot join Formal Madarsa/Islamic Institutes or cannot spare themselves completely for a formal Islamic learning. It is not only for well known illiterates (Labourers, Rickshaw Pullers etc) but also for those Muslims who otherwise are from elite class (Doctors engineers  collectors ministers etc) but with respect to knowledge and practice of deen are not a good position. (A viable model for 95 % Muslims).
5.     It is easy methodology for Muslim Ummah than can be without any need of Financial or other infrastructure help. It will be based on WA TAWANU ALAL BIRRE WATTAQWA.
6.     Under the supervision of formal Madarsas and educational Institution there should be some mobile institution, living guide and reformers, and speaking manuscript. (Chalti phirti darsgahein, jeeti jagti khanqahein, bolte chalet saheefe,).They will fill their bucket of knowledge and will deliver to masses.
Temporary Migration Motivation and Striving for deen
The migration and motivation, movement and striving for deen has to be revived. It is the fundamental structure of Islamic knowledge and service of prphet era, that structure has to be replicated and revived.
7.     Muslims should be encouraged to migrate temporarily (leave engagements for a short period). In this short period they should be provided with a practical religious environment following Sunnah and Shariat. This environment will make them familiar with a religious life to adopt.
8.     This basic skeleton of this environment will be built by accompanying fellows and further cemented by their effort to motivate other people of the area where they have gone and stationed.

Migration and Motivation will be three way Process
a.      Between each member of the group through a bidirectional process. (In group some will be more knowlagable and some less they will learn knowledge and qualities from each other Wa Tawanu Alal birre wattaqwa.
b.      It will also motivate the people of the area where they have gone to learn deen and for service of deen.
c.      By this way it will become a chain and will bring revolution in Whole ummat.
On the above mentioned strong points Maulana Ilyas has called each section of the Muslim Ummah to temporary leave their busy engagements for a short period of time and to utilize time for teaching and learning in a religious environment.”

Dawah in Islam An Important Obligation backbone of body of Islam

Excerpts from Syed Suleman Nadvi (rahmatullah alaihe) book A Message-Carrying Nation and the Principles of its Invitation

..............The Importance of Dawat o Tableegh :

A wisely-planned [system of] da'wat and tableegh, amr bil ma'roof, and nahi a'nil munkar is the backbone of the entire body of Islam.

It is da'wat on which depends the foundation, strength, expansion and success of Islam. I believe that, in these days, da'wat is more needed than it was needed in any time in the past; and in contrast with converting the non- Muslims to Islamic Faith, this is more important to make Muslims Muslim, i.e., making effort on those who are Muslims in name or by nationality so that they become true and dutiful Muslims.

In the light of the present-day religious state of Muslims,
it becomes the duty of every Muslim to raise the call of the Holy Qur'an:

O you who hove attained to faith! Holdfast unto uour belief in Allah and His Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam),... [Quran , 4:36]

with all force and potentials. This demands that we go about from city to city, village to village, and from door to door, persuading those who are Muslims in name to become true Muslims- by faith and by practice.

And in this path, that amount of dedicated hardwork, consistent effort, courage and tolerance should be invested which the worldly people are employing for gaining worldly honour and authority. That is, that dedication to the cause which inspires such an insurmountable power in the people that they get willing to sacrifice their most prized possessions- even their own lives- and pledge to remove any obstruction that might possibly hinder the progress of their mission. To promote the cause of da'wat, we should use all means: invite peoples' attention towards it, utilise honest efforts, and in fact invest all our life and possessions- and try to take a step forward in this field in a way or the other. And for achieving this objective, we should inspire in our self that restlessness without which neither any work, worldly or spiritual, has ever been completed in past and nor will get completed in future. If you want to see the examples of the men of determination of the field of da'wat in this age, please start reading the actual book (to which this essay is the
introduction).

With regards from one who is aware of his humble knowledge.

Janab Maulana Saad Damat Barkatuhum Speech...........

Goya ek mehnat, ek naql-o-harkat aur jo da`wat ki ruh is ^amali dhanche ki..maulwi ilyas(rh) sb farmate the,”ye to ^amali dhancha hai, iski ruh da`wat hai…saara dhancha hai….mehnat ka bhi, ‘ibadat ka bhi.... ye pura dhancha hai, is mein jo ruh padegi wo da’wat se padegi, warna ye mehnat, ye mehnat ek jism hai, is jism ki saari ifaadiyat, iski naql-o-harkat, iski saari manfa’at iski ruh ke saath hai…is liye hamein is par yaqin hona chahiye".

Rough Translation  in ENGLISH:
So the effort and the moving around, its spirit is Da’wa…Maulwi Ilyas(rah) used to say that this is just the skeleton of the work, its soul is Da’wa……the entire thing is a framework…whether the effort or the worship..it is a skeleton and it will come to life through da’wa..otherwise this work…this work[effort] is like a body…..the entire benefits(ifaadiyaat) of this body….its moving around…all its achievements(manfa'at)…… are dependent upon its soul..hence we need to believe in it. The Qur’an has sworn that humanity is in loss and cannot come out of this loss without da’wa (repeated twice). Those people will be saved from loss ….they will achieve salvation….who have 4 things in them….Faith, good deeds, inviting others towards faith and good deeds..(repeated)….inviting others towards good and stopping them from evil. Inviting towards faith and good deeds..this is also a condition for salvation like faith and good deeds themselves. The ‘Ulama have written that these are the four conditions for salvation (najaat). Faith (Iman), good deeds (amal al Saleh), Tawasee bi’l Haqq (calling towards Haqq), tawasee bi’s sabr (calling towards patience). If even one is left out, then (all) the conditions for salvation will not be met. Hence workers must believe that this Ummah cannot come out of its state of loss without the work of Da’wa.
