Generosity on the day of Aashura

Question:

Is it virtuous to spend generously on one`s family on the 10^th of Muharram?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The Messenger of Allah (peace and salutations be upon him) said:

من وسَّع علي عياله يوم عاشوراء وسع الله عليه سائر السنة

Translation: Whoever generously spends on his dependents on the day of ‘Aashura, Allah Ta’ala will expand his sustenance (Barakah) for the rest of that year.

This Hadith is classified as acceptable and reliable[1]. It is narrated by:

1.       Jabir Ibn Abdullah (May Allah be pleased with him)

2.      Umar Ibn Khattab (May Allah be pleased with him)

3.      Abu Hurayrah (May Allah be pleased with him)

4.      Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him)

5.      Abdullah Ibn Mas`ud (May Allah be pleased with him)

6.      Abdullah Ibn Umar (May Allah be pleased with him)

All paise be to Allah who alone sustains the world. Exalted salaah (blessings) and complete salaam (peace) be on our master Muhammad Sallallahu 'Alayhi Wasallam and his family and companions.

The Shamaa-il of Imaam Abu 'Eesa Timidhi has a collection of 397 ahaadith and is divided into 55 chapters on the physical description and character of our beloved Nabi Sallallahu 'Alayhi Wasallam. It has been printed on numerous occasions and many commentaries have been written on it. The 

present English translation and commentary is of the Khasaa-il Nabawi Sallallahu 'Alayhi Wasallam by the late Shaykhul Hadith Maulana Muhammad Zakariyya Rahamatullahi 'Alayhi. It will enable a Muslim to achieve a link and connection with the one whom Allah Ta'aala has made as a mercy unto 

mankind, and most certainly Allah has spoken the truth when He mentions in His Book:

"Verily, you (0 Muhammad) are of a very high (noble) character".

A Muslim can truly claim his love for Rasulullah Sallallahu 'Alayhi Wasallam, if he attempts to follow the manner and life-style of the messenger of Islam. We are given such an opportunity, after the reading of this book, for it enlightens the reader with the intimate aspect of Rasul Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam's life. 

Finally, we ask, Allah Ta'aala to reward us and that He instill within us the distinguished features and august character of this most Noble Messenger, who is the perfect example for Muslims.

My dear friends and elders! That work which is not made into a worship will become a

mere ritual. Really, this is the difference between worshiping and performing mere rituals.

Rituals and festivals are for the non-Muslims and worship and sacrifice are for the Muslims.

But, because of ignorance...because we do not believe in the rewards that Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala

has promised us nor have knowledge of the rewards that we’d gain through worship, the worship of

Muslims has become like that of the festivals of the non-Muslims. People think that the eid of the Muslims

are festivals, if such things are said by the non-Muslims, its fine, what do they know what worship is...but

if Muslims think Eid’s are festivals?

If Muslims think of eid’s as festivals...before Islam when the non-Muslims wanted to celebrate, such days

were fixed.

Didn’t the Companions [ra] say to the Prophet [peace be upon him] “O Prophet of Allah! On this day

during the age of ignorance, we used to celebrate, make merry”. 

The Prophet [peace be upon him] replied:

“No! Allah has given you something much better in return, Allah has given you 2 days in return for that 1

day, one is Eid ul Fitr and the other is Eid ul Adha”.

Remember, that night is a night of worship whose [following] day is also a day of worship [meaning the

night before the eid and day of eid]. People spend the night before eid doing shopping instead of in ibaadah! And that too in wasteful expenditure instead on giving in charity!...................

يَايُّهَا الَّذِينَ ءامَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمْ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ

اَعُوْذُ باِﷲ ِ مِنَ شَّیطَانِ الرَّجِیْم

بِسْمِ  اﷲ ِ  الرَّحمن  ِ الرَّحِیْم

يَايُّهَا الَّذِينَ ءامَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمْ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ (2:183)

اﷲ  تعالی  اپنے  فضل  و  رحمت  کا  اظہار  فرما  رہے  ہیں  کہ  ‘اے  ایمان  والو !  تم  پر  روزہ  فرض  کیا  جا رہا  ہے  ،  جیسا  کہ  تم  سے  پچھلے  لوگوں  پر  بھی  ہم  نے  فرض  کیا  ہے’۔ علّامہ  آلوسی  اور  سیّد  محمود  بغدادی  تفسیر  روح المعانی  میں  فرماتے  ہیں  کہ  یہ  آیت  آسان  کرنے  کے  لیے  نازل  ہوئی  ہے  کہ  روزہ  آسان  ہے۔  تم  رکھو  جیسا  کہ  پچھلے  لوگوں  نے  رکھا  ہے۔  یعنی  روزہ  رکھنے  سے  تمہیں  جو  یہ  وسوسہ  آتا  ہے  کہ  صبح  سے  شام  تک  بھوکوں  رہنے  سے  مر  جائوں  گا  تو  کوئی  مرا  نہیں۔  پچھلے  لوگوں  نے  بھی  رکھا  اور  زندہ  رہے۔

كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ

‘جیسا  کہ  فرض  کیا  گیا  تم  سے  پچھلے  لوگوں  پر’۔  پچھلے  لوگوں  نے  روزہ  رکھا  اور  سب  زندہ  رہے  ،  کوئی  مرا  نہیں۔  تو  تمہارا  یہ  وسوسہ  باطل  ہے  کہ  صبح  سے  شام  تک  بھوکوں  رہنے  سے مر  جائوں  گا۔  تم  کو  اور  زندگی  ملے  گی۔  کیونکہ  یہ  زندگی  دینے  والے  کا  حُکم  ہے۔  تو  اُن  کی  اطاعت  و  فرمانبرداری  سے  زندگی  میں  اِک  نئی  زندگی  آ جائیگی۔

لَعَلَّکُمْ  تَتَّقُونَ

یہ  روزہ  کیوں  فرض  کیا؟  تاکہ  تُم  میرے  دوست  ہوجائو  ،  ابھی  صرف  غلام  ہو۔  ایمان  والا  غلامی  میں  تو  داخل  ہوگیا  لیکن  میری  دوستی  کا  تاج  غلامی  کے  سر  پر  اُس  وقت  رکھا  جائے  گا  جب  تُم  روزہ  رکھو  گے۔  روزے  کا  انعام  سنا  آپ  نے؟  ابھی  تو  صرف  غلام  ہو  ،  اگر  روزہ  رکھو  گے  تو  تمہاری  غلامی  پر  ہم  اپنی  دوستی  کا  تاج  رکھ  دینگے۔  کیونکہ  دوسری  آیت  میں  اﷲ تعلی  نے فرمایا  کہ اِنا  اولیا ء الالمتقون کہ  ‘میرا  کوئی  ولی  نہیں  مگر  جو  متّقی  ہیں’۔  گناہوں  سے  بچتے ہیں

Can we eat bone marrow?

Answer:

It is permissible to consume the bone marrow of any halāl animal.[1]
